Nursing Home Negligence

Nursing home negligence often arises out of the failure of nursing home staff to provide adequate medical care and adequate supervision to patients.   When patients suffer from a lack of care, and even abuse, the result can be serious injury or even death.

Yamashiro v. Harmony Nursing Home
A woman suffered spinal cord damage resulting in paralysis within several days of neck surgery. She experienced excruciating pain from the time of surgery until her death, nearly a year later.
Settlement date: 4/07.  Settlement amount: $400,000.

Silvetti v. Alden Nursing Home
After falling at a nursing home, a male resident of a nursing home failed to regain his ability to speak, was not arouseable and did not respond to painful stimuli.  Weeks later, he was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma.  Surgery was performed to drain the hematoma.   He developed ulcers and may have become septic. He died less than five months after the fall.
Settlement date: 1/22/07. Settlement amount: $300,000.
